Did social media cause the British Riots?

England had not seen riots like these since the Brixton Riots in the 1980's, however, unlike these rioters the London Rioters had prime access to an array of social media outlets. Despite the easy access to social media, I don't think they caused the London Riots. There seems to be a huge underlying social aspect that has caused these riots. There seems to be no middle class left in London in my opinion, only a upper and lower class left. The huge social divide had caused a ever growing rift and it seems that they culminated and exploded over the police shooting of a man. Yes, social media was able to in some cases spread the word of the riots, but anyone could see from a mile away that riots were happening which makes it easy to join in, just like they did in ‘the good old days.’ I read an article on the ABC website, that I think really highlights the social reasoning behind the London Riots. This article was written by a social worker in the UK discussing the social system in England as a cause for the London Riots: Blame for riots turns to UK social system
