Week Two Tutorial Task

This is my first blog, and before this I had only ever used Facebook and Myspace, although I do have a Twitter, I really haven't used it. I mainly use Facebook in order to communicate with my family and friends. Although, I think that if I didn't live away from home, in a different city, I wouldn't use it as frequently, or possibly even at all. I had a Myspace, as mentioned previously, however, it was only in high school, and didn't use it for very long as it became 'uncool' and Facebook 'took over'. However, as with Facebook, it was again used to keep in contact with friends as not everyone had a mobile phone or credit all the time! I only started to use Facebook because of my mum and cousin who wanted to stay in touch, and I didn't even make my own Facebook, my cousin made it for me! I have a bi issue with the privacy (or lack there of) in regards to Facebook - particularly with their new face recognition technology. I feel it is creating a generation who don't respect privacy as well as creating a whole new load of issues in regards to employment.

I found this video which I think fulfills Task 1 part B of this task quite nicely:

I think its a great, and hilarious, depiction of what Facebook is really used for, and it also highlights the extremes of people's use of Facebook quite nicely.

And I thought this was an interesting analytical tool that tied in nicely with both my rant about Facebook and also the video I found:

How to Make Powerful Connections Through Social Media

I actually found this tool rather funny, as I don't agree that Social Media is the best way to make 'powerful connections,' however, I liked the way it was laid out and I feel that people these days are most likely interested in making 'powerful connections' through outlets like Facebook and Twitter.
